Hoogheemraadschap Delfland

Dry feet... It seems so obvious, but it isn't. More than 50 percent of the Delfland area lies below sea level. Without facilities, these areas would be flooded. With the help of six drainage pumps, 195 polder pumps, and weirs, the water board ensures the correct water level in canals, ditches, moats, and lakes. We have produced a silk women's scarf and a silk woven tie for the Delfland Water Authority.

The office is located in the Gemeenlandshuis in Delft. The sandstone facade of this town hall is decorated with coats of arms. If you look closely, you can see these coats of arms on the scarf, translated into a beautiful and wearable design. The theme of the tie is water, in the form of waves. The waves appear as a woven pattern, giving the tie a rich effect. The coat of arms of the Hoogheemraadschap is woven into the reverse side of the tie. The coat of arms of the Hoogheemraadschap has been in use since the sixteenth century. This coat of arms is still often visible on memorial stones embedded in locks, pumping stations, etc.
