Wageningen University & Research

To mark the centennial of Wageningen University & Research, Rooymans Neckwear developed two distinctive accessories highlighting the university’s rich scientific heritage. The silk carré scarf is inspired by the hand-painted natural history plates of Maria Sibylla Merian, the artist and researcher who documented the tropical flora and fauna of Suriname around 1700. Her detailed illustrations create a meaningful connection to the university’s history and collections.

In addition, we designed a silk tie based on a botanical watercolor of the historic pear variety Beurré Chaudy. The characteristic watercolor served as the foundation for a finely woven pattern of small, rhythmically arranged pear motifs in warm tones.

Together, the scarf and tie bring the botanical heritage of Wageningen University & Research to life in a wearable and contemporary way.
